Client: Florida Department of Transportation
Location: St. George Island, FL
Date of Completion: February 2004
The 4.5 mile bridge spans the Appalachiocola Bay from Eastpoint, Florida to St. George Island, a barrier island off the coast of Florida. The design build proposal allowed Boh Bros. to have complete control over the project and to guarantee a quick completion time. The bridge was constructed 1500 ft. from the old bridge and built using specially manufactured concrete cylinder piles and pre-cast concrete caps. The bridge also features prestressed concrete bulb tee girder approach spans and five post-tension spans over a 250 ft. channel.
As part of the contract, Boh Bros. demolished and removed a large portion of the old bridge while leaving 3250 ft. at the end of each span to serve as fishing piers. Boh Bros. gave the Florida Department of Transportation an unprecedented 10 year abutment to abutment warranty.
