Client: New Orleans Aviation Board
Location: Kenner, LA
Date of Completion: August 2007
Rehabilitation began with the removal and reconstruction of approximately 200,000 square yards of runway and connecting taxiway pavement. Crews milled off existing asphalt, removed existing concrete where it would conflict with the new concrete subgrade and removed sections to make way for new drainage crossings. Expanded polystyrene blocks were placed in some areas, and Boh’s asphalt division placed asphalt leveling and a new bond-breaker course in other areas.
Work also included the addition of high-speed taxiways, which allow pilots to gradually veer off the runway onto a taxiway. Crews worked to install new runway center line lights and touchdown zone lights at the proper elevation before placing concrete. Boh Bros, was able to finish the project 10 weeks ahead of schedule which allowed the runway to be used for emergency operations post-Hurricane Katrina.
